The Validation of a diabetes patient knowledge test
1983
Hess, George E. | Davis, Wayne K.
A knowledge test was developed to assess the degree of understanding of diabetes by patients. When combined with measures of patient attitudes and behavior, test results can aid in the assessment of diabetes educational needs and in the design of appropriate educational approaches. Data from over 950 administrations of 2 parallel forms of the test (of eaual difficulty) are evaluated and summarized. The tests measured knowledge in 5 areas: carbohydrates, blood sugar, food exchanges, insulin administration, and basic information. The validity and applicability of the test was judged in terms of its content, construct, interassociation between topic areas, and its ability to discriminate specific areas of knowledge concerning the cause and management of diabetes.
