James, W.P.T. | Haggarty, P. | McGaw, B.A.
This article outlines the issues that must still be resolved in light of recent application of the doubly labeled water technique for measuring energy expenditure: 1) differentiating the components of energy expenditure, 2) the level of accuracy required to determine the genetic factors that govern body composition, 3) measurement of energy intake, 4) energy adaptation and requirements in man, 5) energy costs of growth and lactation, sources in the D2O18 method.
