Men's satisfaction with the fit and availability of ready-to-wear clothing

This study was designed to assess differences among four groups of male consumers (short, average-height, tall-thin, and tall-large) on the basis of: (1) satisfaction with ready-to-wear fit at specific body sites; and (2) satisfaction with clothing availability. Data (N = 269) were collected via a mail questionnaire sent to a random sample of 1,430 out of 5,000 names purchased from a consumer list in the United States. Multivariate and univariate analyses of variance with Tukey's tests revealed that two groups - short and tall-large sized men - had significantly lower satisfaction with fit at several body sites and with clothing availability as compared to the other two groups. Based on the findings, the authors discuss marketing and manufacturing as well as consumer education program opportunities.
