Catering contracts protect the caterer as well as the client. A contract is a blueprint which details the client's wishes and caterer's services. A contract should state the menu, the number to be served, the charges and payment schedule. Eleven issues to cover in a catering contract are listed, such as the exact date, location, and time. A signed contract is more substantive than a verbal one and is less likely to be misinterpreted; a signed or unsigned summary of obligations may also be appropriate. Contracts can minimize anxiety and create a bond of understanding and trust between caterer and client. (kbc)
