The free amino acid content was studied in mango buds during various stages of fruit bud differentiation (FBD). Before and during FBD stages, there was a significant decrease in the total free amino acids content of the buds and it was considerably lower than that of scar buds. The total free amino acids content of differentiated buds was significantly higher than that of scar and undifferentiated buds. Arginine increased enormously during FBD. There was an accumulation of phenylalanine in the differentiated buds at post-FBD.
