Estimating the Size of Cotton Trash with Video Images
1990
Taylor, R.A.
Video trashmeters now used to indicate the amount of foreign matter in cotton can also measure the size of particles observed. One instrument was modified to give the population of trash appearing in different size categories. Computer methods were used to indicate two kinds of size distributions: one based on the length of scan as it crossed the particle and the other on the total particle area. Adding size data in regres sion models improved the agreement between trashmeter measurements and Shirley Analyser nonlint content. Comparisons between the size of trash in ginned lint with the quantity remaining in manufactured yarn confirmed the belief that small particles tend to remain in the cotton through processing.
