WHO European Collaborative Trial of multifactorial prevention of coronary heart disease

The results of a multifactorial WHO collaborative trial for coronary heart disease (CHD) prevention in 4 European countries (Belgium, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom), covering 49,781 men (ages 40-59), are presented and discussed. The CHD risk intervention program resulted in reductions in plasma cholesterol, cigarette smoking, body weight, systolic blood pressue, and CHD mortality, with greatest reductions occurring in high-risk subjects.(wz)
