Looking for 'fresh' food: diet and lone parents

This paper examines the findings of survey research on nutrition and diet in single parent homes. Single parents who either shopped for "fresh" food seemed to achieve better variety-frequency scores (VFS) and healthy diet indices for themselves and their children. Those who used their children's taste as a guide in buying food, who were likely to be poorer, were more likely to have unhealthy patterns. Black, British and Afro-Caribbean households had better dietary variety and healthy dietary patterns than white, and to some extent, better micronutrient status.
