Border irrigation uniformity: combined effects of infiltration
1986
Clemmens, A.J.
A Monte Carlo simulation model was used to study variations in the distribution of infiltrated water under basin irrigation, as a special case of border irrigation. Infiltration conditions were varied randomly and opportunity times were varied according to the advance ratio. Simulations were made with the coefficients of variation for infiltration and opportunity time ranging from 0 to 25%. It was shown that the resulting coefficient of variation, CV, for the final infiltration distribution can be accurately found by simple combination of variance techniques. However, distribution uniformity, DU, is not accurately computed from the resulting CV since the shape of the distribution is not normal. Methods developed for adjusting CV to give a better estimate of DU were marginally successful.
