Fully functionalized decalin skeleton of (+)-fusarisetin A is stereoselectively synthesized from (+)-citronellal and methyl (S)-(+)-3-hydroxybutyrate. The bicyclic framework has been constructed using intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction.
