Adaptative changes in oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscle of cold-acclimated piglets

The present results, obtained on 8-week old cold-acclimated piglets (8 degrees C for 3 weeks) confirm that cold-acclimation induces some biochemical adaptations in subsarcolemmal mitochondria from rhomboideus muscle. Free fatty acids might be responsible for this alteration of mitochondrial respiration. This study provides additional information about the biochemical and structural modifications of skeletal muscles after cold-acclimation.
