Efficacy of supplemental mannase on corn soya based diet in broilers

β-mannanase known to hydrolyse β – mannan, an antinutritional factor. Broiler diets are formulated with corn soyabean meal are known to contain β - mannan. In this study, an attempt was made to improve the utilization of soyabean meal by using β - mannanase at two plane of energy. One hundred and ninety two day old boiler chicks were divided in eight treatment groups with three replicates in each and eight birds in each replicate. The energy density of the broiler diets were normal energy (NE) and low energy (NE minus 100 kcal/kg). Both the energy density diets were formulated without and with 50 or 100g of β mannanase or 50 g of NSP enzyme/100 kg of feed. Growth in birds fed without enzyme at both the energy densities was comparable. Supplementation of mannanase at both the levels in both the energy densities did not improve the growth performance, but the performance of NSP enzyme supplementation was better than birds fed unsupplemented diets. Feed consumption, feed efficiency, carcass characteristics (dressing, giblet, abdominal fat and intestinal length in relation to body weight) were comparable in all the treatments. β- mannanase improved the dry matter and crude fibre digestibility, but the ME and litter moisture were not affected. Supplementation of β mannanase supported comparable growth in LE diet and resulted in low feed cost/kg weight gain (P>0.05).
