TDAL profiles of southern pine lumber during drying
1990
Taylor, F.W. | Landoch, D.
Temperature drop across the load (TDAL) of lumber in a dry kiln is being used in computer control programs to determine when charges of southern pine have reached the desired final average moisture content (MC). Temperature profiles for four different drying schedules were investigated in this study. For all drying conditions tested, TDAL was less near the end of drying than during early stages of drying. This implies that it is directly related to MC. However, this research showed the relationship to be erratic. Therefore, TDAL is not a precise method for determining average MC or determining when the desired final average MC has been reached.
