Variation in the content of biogenic amines in two lines of Drosophila virilis and their hybrids in ontogenesis and under heat stress

The content of dopamine and serotonin is studied in two lines of Drosophila virilis during ontogenesis and under conditions of short-term heat stress. The dopamine content is found to increase markedly during the formation of the puparium and the emergence of the imago. The changes in the content of serotonin during the course of development are much less pronounced. The dopamine content is significantly higher (more than twice as high) in imagoes of line 147 than in line 101. Under heat stress the dopamine content is shown to rise considerably in flies of both lines (the serotonin content does not change), but the level of the reaction is 2.5 times higher in individuals of line 101 than in imagoes of line 147. The type of reaction seen in line 147 dominates in F1 hybrids (147 X 101).
