Microsatellite variation was analysed in two breeds of goat (White Short-Haired (WSH) and Brown Short-Haired (BSH)). Three of the markers originated from cattle, three from sheep, and one from goats. Within these seven loci, allele frequencies, heterozygosity (H), polymorphism information content (PIC) and genetic distances (D) were calculated. Both breeds exhibited relatively high level of heterozygosity. The size range of SR-CRSP-9 in both breeds was quite different from data published by Luitkart et al. [Anim. Genet. 30 (1999) 431] for Mongolian Cashmere, Angora, Saanen and Murciana-Grenadina breeds.
