Yield Enhancement of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) on Different Date of Sowing on Farmer's Field

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is most important pulse crop in Madhya Pradesh. The major reason of low productivity of Chickpea is non-adoption of improved technologies. Front line demonstration were conducted at 92 farmers field, to demonstrate production potential and economic benefit of improved technologies comprising wilt resistant variety (JG 130, JG 11, JG 16 and JG14), line sowing (40 x 10cm) and balanced use of fertilizer (20: 60: 40, NPK kg/ha). The seeds were treated with Trichoderma viride @ 4g/kg seed then inoculated with rhizobium and phosphate-solubilzing bacteria each @20g/kg of seeds. Pre-emergence application of weedicide Pendimethalin @ 1 kg a.i/ha used for effective control of the weeds during Rabi season of 2007–08 to 201112 in rainfed and irrigated condition. Improved technology recorded a mean yield of 13.80q/ha which was 30.60 per cent higher than that obtained with farmers practice yield of 9.68q/ha. The improved technologies resulted higher mean net income of Rs.29302.20/ha with a benefit cost ratio of 4.13 as compared to local practice (20490.20/ha, 3.51). The results indicated that sowing of chickpea on 18 October to 22 October is the optimum sowing date for chickpea to harvest higher yield.
