A technical report reviews a self-efficacy model and its use in weight control. A general overview is presented on the concept of self-efficacy as a theory of behavior change, the self-efficacy model is described, and studies of self-efficacy and weight control are summarized. Aspects of validity, reliability, and deficiencies are discussed. It is concluded that there are several areas associated with the self-efficacy model and weight control which require further study. Ethical questions regarding the model also are addressed.
