Adipocyte heat production before and after weight reduction by gastroplasty
1986
Olsson, S.A. | Monti, M. | Sorbris, R. | Nilsson-Ehle, P.
The body weight of 15 grossly obese patients decreased by 30 per cent 6-8 months following gastroplastic surgery. In addition, a variety of abnormal physiological parameters normalized. These parameters included: lipoprotein lipase activity; thyroid function; adipocyte heat production; blood levels of glucose and insulin; and urinary glucose levels. Because the adipose heat production increased following weight loss, previously depressed adipocyte heat production was found to be a consequence of obesity, rather than a cause.(lsp)
