Intraspecific Competition between Drosophila Larvae in Serial Transfer Systems
1974
Gilpin, Michael E.
Experiments showed the overriding importance for population regulation of larval competition as compared to oviposition. A dominance hierarchy exists based on larval age (or size). The mechanism of the larval competition is not simple exploitation, but must also involve some component of interference; these may be labeled, respectively, K and α strategies.
