The most commonly used nutrition intervention strategies include nutrition counseling or education, nutrition supplementation with additional foods, or a combination of education and supplementation. An effective nutrition intervention leads to satisfactory maternal weight gain during pregnancy and ultimately to a reduced number of low birth weight infants and reduced perinatal mortality rate.
