The authors present data on the mental development of children at different ages (birth to two years, preschool age, and school age) in relation to nutritional status. Anthropometric and psychomotor development, retardation, IQ and parental factors are considered. The data seem to indicate that stunting and impaired mental development have no causal link but are both associated effects of poverty and deprivation.
