The present study included evaluation of hyluronic acid and hyaluronic acid-carboxymethylcellulose in a rat adhesion model. Rat peritoneal adhesion model was developed. Rats were randomly allotted to two groups, HA and HA-CMC groups. These rats were anaesthetized with xylazine-ketamine anesthesia and operated as per the standard surgical protocol. 1% HA treatment was given to the animals during and after the surgical procedure by instilling it while doing surgery. HA-CMC membrane was applied over the abraded uterine horn and placed over the peritoneal sidewall defect before closing the abdomen. Animals were observed for next 21 days and were euthanized on 21ˢᵗ postoperative day. Adhesion scoring in two groups showed better results for the HA-CMC group. It was concluded that adhesions can be reduced with HA-CMC membrane more effectively than HA alone.
