Mass Modelling of Chandsily Variety of Custard Apple

Chandsily is name of variety of custard apple grown in Maharashtra. It is a dry land fruit and grown in many states of India like Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier custard apple grown in forest only but now it is growing in organized orchard. Area of custard apple in Maharashtra is increased in last 10 year. The postharvest system for these fruits is not yet adequately developed, and therefore several handling problems are still common. For proper design of grading systems, important relationships among the mass and other properties of fruits such as length, width, thickness, volumes, bulk density, true density, pulp, peel, seed content must be known. The aim of this research was to measure and present some physical properties custard apple fruit. The gross weight, size, arithmetic mean diameter, sphericity, surface area, seeded pulp content, deseeded pulp content, peel content, number of seeds per fruit and volume of custard apple fruit varied in the range of 154.3 to 395.9g, 6.2 to 8.9 cm, 6.3 to 9.0 cm 0.8 to 1.0, 120.4 to 251.1 cm2 41.6 to 63.2%, 36.9 to 51.7%, 28.2 to 44.2%, 11 to 77 and 153.0 to 411.3 cm3, respectively. Mass of custard apple fruit of chandsily variety can be estimated fromlength, width and volume of fruit using model M=K1L+K2W+C and M=K1Voblet + C. This model had highest coefficient of determination R² and lowest RMSE value among all the models.
