Uapaca bojeri Baill. (Phyllanthaceae), is a tree species endemic to Madagascar, colloquially known as ‘tapia’, that forms monodominant grassy woodlands in a series of disconnected populations across the Central Highlands. Uapaca bojeri and the ecosystems it forms are culturally, economically and scientifically important to Madagascar. The species, Uapaca bojeri, and the ecosystems it dominates, are in need of new research and conservation efforts to understand how sustainable use of the species can align with its conservation and that of the unique plants and animals special to the tapia woodlands.
