Natural enemies of noctuid pests (Lep., Noctuidae) on alfalfa, corn, cotton and soybean crops in southern Spain1

Twenty two species of parasitoids and twelve of predators of pest noctuid species were identified on alfalfa, corn, cotton and soybean fields in the south of Spain during 1985, 1986, and 1987. Eleven parasitoid species were obtened from Heliothis armigera Hbn., 3 from Autographa gamma L., 1 from Trichoplusia ni Hbn., 6 from T. orichacea Fab., 2 from Chrysodeixis chalcites Esp., 9 from Spodoptera exigua Hbn., 4 from Lacanobia oleracea L., 1 from S. littoralis Boisd., 1 from Sesamia nonagrioides Laf., 3 from Mythimna loreyi Dup., and 2 from Agrotis segetum Den. et Schiff. The percentages of larval parasitism were: 19.8% for H. armigera, 18.7% for S. exigua, 37.3% for T. orichalcea, 31.4% for Ch. chalcites, 20.0% for M. loreyi, 15.3% for A. segetum, 31.4% for L. oleracea, 31.7% for T. ni, 30.0% for S. nonagrioides, and 9.1% for S. littoralis. The most common larval parasites were: Apanteles kazak for H. armigera; A. plutella for A. gamma, T. ni, T. orichalcea, and Ch. chalcites; A. ruficrus for L. oleracea and A. segetum; Chelonus inanitus for S. exigua; and Meteorus pulchricornis for Ch. chalcites. Also there are included percentages of parasitism per sampled field for each crop and parasitoid species, and results of host acceptation tests for some of these parasitoid species. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Über die natürlichen Feinde der wichtigsten Noctuidenarten (Lep., Noctuidae) an Alfalfa, Getreide, Baumwolle und Sojabohne im südlichen Spanien Aus den Eiern, Raupen und Puppen von 11 Noctuiden‐Arten, die als Schädlinge an den genannten Kulturpflanzen im südlichen Spanien auftraten, wurden 11 Parasitoiden‐Arten gezogen. Weiterhin wurden 12 Arten bzw. Gruppen von Predatoren (räuberische Arthropoden) als Regulatoren dieser Schädlinge festgestellt.
