Diet, nutrition, and cancer: new findings
1986
Recent studies regarding the relationship between nutrition and cancer reveal several new findings. Inconsistent evidence has implicated total fat intake to the development of some types of cancer. The recent suggestion that dietary calcium may protect against colon cancer is supported by some epidemiological findings and a newly reported clinical investigation. Despite the number of advancements in cancer treatment, some cancer patients seek unconventional therapies, many of which involve dietary changes. Among these are the use of laetrile or so-called "vitamin B17," megadoses of vitamin C, and macrobiotic diets. These are not only ineffective in the prevention and treatment of cancer, but they can lead to nutrient deficiencies, other health problems, and even death.(lsp)
