Corn Silage Yield as Affected by Different Harvesting Techniques
1968
Mays, D. A.
At a yield level of 10,000 kg/ha, harvesting corn silage at 45 to 75 cm above the soil instead of at 15 cm, topping above the ear, or making center-cut silage decreased dry matter yields 1,960, 3,790, 2,110, and 5,901 kg/ha, respectively. Digestible energy levels were correspondingly reduced by 1,030, 2,110, 1,160, and 3,263 kg/ha.
