The effect of two soils (forest and agricultural), and tepetate and inoculation with Glomus spp. Zac-19, G. intraradices FS-18 and Gigaspora rosea BEG-111 on Acacia farnesiana and Prosopis glandulosa was studied. A greenhouse experiment using randomized blocks with three replicates with a factorial arrangement 4 x 3 x 2 was established. Evaluations were carried out every 14 days during 126 days. The variables evaluated were plant height, stem diameter, and leaf number. Additionally, at 126 days, leaf area, aerial and root dry weight, root volume and length of roots, phosphorus content of foliage, and mycorrhizal colonization were evaluated. Inoculated plants showed higher values than non-inoculated plants in most evaluated variables in forest soil and tepetate. Inoculated plants growing in the agricultural soil had maximum values in the evaluated variables, but they did not show significant differences in comparison to non-inoculated plants (control). This suggests that physical and chemical characteristics in this soil, such as nutrient content, had more influence on plant growth than inoculation. There were no statistical differences among fungi; however, Glomus spp. Zac-19 produced better numeric response. Mycorrhizal inoculation may help to produce healthier and more vigorous plants in the nursery, giving them an advantage to compete in environments with low nutrients content.
