Arsenic: an essential trace element?

Recent reports are reviewed that indicate that arsenic (As) may be an essential nutrient for the normal metabolism of arginine and the urea cycle. The metabolism of As and its chronic toxicity symptoms are briefly discussed. Information on the As content in various foods also is included.(wz)
