Changes in vegetal flow resistance during long-duration flows
1991
Temple, D.M.
Data from large scale tests of flow over grass show that the influence of flow duration on vegetal flow retardance potential is small, provided that the vegetal elements are not destroyed or removed. Inundation times and/or hydraulic stresses sufficient to damage the vegetation were found to reduce flow retardance potential and thereby the overall flow resistance associated with a given discharge. The increase or decrease in flow resistance for times and stresses less than those required to directly damage the vegetation was found to depend on soil, cover, and flow conditions.
