A potato starch-based biodegradable composite reinforced with alkaline-treated bagasse fiber was produced. The effects of treated bagasse fiber content and average fiber length on tensile strength, water absorption, and water solubility index were investigated. When 15.0% (w/w %) of the treated bagasse fiber was blended, the composite had a maximum tensile strength (24.5 MPa). However, the tensile strength at 21.5% of the treated bagasse fiber was almost the same as for the non-bagasse fiber composite, indicating that the average fiber length of this composite was shorter than twice the critical fiber length. In addition, the water absorption was reduced with increasing treated bagasse fiber content.
