Synthesis and herbicidal activity of novel 2,3-dibromo-5-trifluoromethyl-4-pyrrolecarboxylate derivatives

A series of novel 2,3-dibromo-5-trifluoromethyl-4-pyrrolecarboxylates were prepared and their herbicidal properties evaluated. Several compounds showed strong herbicidal efficacy after post-emergence application onto the green parts of the test plants. Speed of action as well as the activity symptoms suggest that these novel pyrrole herbicides may act like halogenated 4-hydroxybenzonitrile derivatives or diphenylethers.
