Drying Caucasian Rhododendron using gaseous nitrogen.
2021
The issue of drying the leaves of the Caucasian rhododendron is considered. It is shown that the methods and devices currently used for this purpose are simple and unexpensive, however, they cannot guarantee the complete preservation of all useful elements of the raw materials, or increase the productivity of the drying process. In this regard, it is not possible to meet the growing demand for products of the Caucasian rhododendron in modern conditions. A new drying method and related equipment are presented that take into account the use of gaseous nitrogen obtained by evaporation of liquid nitrogen for drying. Drying in a gaseous nitrogen environment completely eliminates the possibility of reducing the quantity or quality of useful elements of the raw material due to the absence of any enzymatic transformations. At the same time, the gas obtained by evaporation of liquid nitrogen practically does not contain water vapor, and therefore a moisture gradient arises between the wet feed (rhododendron leaves) and the used working agent (nitrogen gas with zero water vapor content), which leads to a high intensity of the drying process.
