Structure of Sugar Demand in Czech Republic with Focus on Sugar Type Choice

The aim of this paper is to analyse sugar demand in the Czech Republic with the emphasis on consumer preferences between beet and cane sugar. This paper presents the results of own research based on primary data on sugar consumption of 688 respondents. The results showed that in spite of information regarding negative effects of sugar on human health, sugar consumption in the Czech Republic shows a stable and growing trend. At the same time, however, there is a change in preferences in the type of purchased sugar. The research has shown that consumers prefer cane sugar to beet sugar regardless of their sex or age.
