Current Economic Development of Sugar Companies in Czech Republic

The paper focuses on the current economic position of companies owning sugar factories in the Czech Republic. The main goal of the paper is to evaluate and compare the financial situation of five companies that now operate in the Czech sugar industry and evaluate their current economic position. The monitored period for data analysis is 2014-2018, i.e. the last five available years. The main methods for fulfilling the main purpose of the paper are the analysis of economic data from financial statements, annual reports and other publicly available information on Czech sugar factories and selected methods of financial analysis that evaluate their current economic situation. Based on the financial analysis, the monitored sugar factories are among stable and competitive companies, which, however, were affected by the ongoing crisis in the sugar industry. If they do not optimize their economic results, their financial stability, health and competitiveness can be jeopardized in the long run. The paper concludes by providing recommendations for the elimination of the identified problem areas in their current economic situation.
