English. The creation of an industrial activity in a rural area is a recurrent theme in any territorial-development policy. Rural areas are generally considered in terms of available resources that may work to the benefit or to the disadvantage of the company (low real-estate costs, less qualified labour). The result is a simple advantage/disadvantage analysis. The tremendous diversity of situations, for companies and entrepreneurs as well as for the rural areas, disqualify the above approach and we propose here a new form of economic analysis that lies at the intersection of territorial economics and industrial economics, taking into account processes for the creation of resources. The territory is characterised by specific forms of economic and social organisation developed over time and localised geographically. This organisation is itself dependent on the territory. The question is thus our understanding of the coordination of economic activities. The notion of convention is a means to take into account the various modes and establish models for company behaviour, depending on the work habits of entrepreneurs. Coordination is therefore a method not only of obtaining resources, but also of creating them. The use of space by companies demonstrates the possible types of territorial insertion. This consists of functional relations with the surrounding area, but also of the personal commitment of the entrepreneur, of an enhanced image of the area due to the products of the company or of the historical development of the company. These relations result in a perception of duration, of the possible reproducibility of the company and even of the irreversibility of its insertion. They are based on structured social relations and on cooperation with local actors. The perception of the relation between rural areas and companies thus becomes more dynamic and incorporates a number of additional variables, notably the strategy of the entrepreneur and the development of the territory by the various actors. The possible interactions and, consequently, the different types of insertion can then be assessed depending on the relevance of the project involving the entrepreneur, the company and the territory.

French. L'implantation industrielle en milieu rural est une question récurrente en matière d'Aménagement du Territoire. Le rural est considéré le plus souvent selon une dotation en ressources, plus ou moins favorable à l'entreprise (main-d'oeuvre non qualifiée, faibles coûts du foncier), qui suppose une alternative handicaps / avantages. Les diversités présentes, tant pour les entreprises et les entrepreneurs que pour les milieux d'implantation, remettent en cause une telle approche. Nous proposons ici un renouvellement de l'analyse économique, au carrefour de l'Economie spatiale et de l'Economie industrielle selon des processus de création de ressources. L'espace est porteur de formes d'organisations économiques et sociales développées dans le temps, géographiquement localisées. L'espace fonctionnel fait place au territoire. La compréhension de la coordination des activités économiques se pose alors. La notion de convention permet d'en refléter les différents modes et d'établir des modèles de comportements d'entreprise, selon les pratiques d'entrepreneurs. La coordination consiste alors non seulement à se procurer des ressources mais aussi à en créer. Les comportements spatiaux des entreprises révèlent différentes insertions territoriales possibles. Ce sont des relations fonctionnelles à un espace de proximité, mais également l'engagement personnel de l'entrepreneur, la valorisation de l'image du territoire par les produits de l'entreprise, ou encore le développement historique de celle-ci. Certaines insertions conduisent à l'ancrage territorial de l'entreprise. Elles introduisent un caractère de durée, une reproductibilité possible de l'entreprise, voire une irréversibilité de son implantation. Elles reposent sur des relations socialement construites, et des coopérations avec des acteurs locaux. La représentation de la relation espaces ruraux - entreprise devient alors plus dynamique et fait intervenir des variables supplémentaires, à savoir la stratégie de l'entrepreneur et la construction de territoire par les acteurs. Les interactions possibles et donc les différentes insertions sont alors à apprécier selon l'adéquation entre l'entrepreneur, l'entreprise et le territoire.
