Based on the analysis of various sources (French universities courses, bibliographic databases), a study of the teaching and scientific activities in plant systematic is realized for France. Lectures in botany (plant identification and systematic tools) still occurs in few universities, including faculties of pharmacology, and in superior studies in agriculture (in horticulture particularly). Publications in English or French show an increase in number during the 1980s, as well as the number of French botanical journals. It appears that the French systematic botany exists but is dispersed spatially and thematically. Thinking elements are also provided regarding possible evolution for this science in France
