Effect of barley endophytic fungi against of two pathogenic fungi, Gaeumannomyces graminis and Pythium aphanidermatum using dual culture method

Endophytic fungi can be efficient biological control agents. There is great evidence that these fungi have protected host plants against root pathogens. In this study, antagonistic effect of 20 isolates of endophytic fungi of barley roots including; Alternaria sp. (six isolates), Microdochium bolleyi (two isolates), Fusarium redolens (four isolates), Fusarium tricinctum (two isolates), F. monliforme (one isolate), Epicoccum nigrum (four isolates) and Clonostachys rosea (four isolates) were evaluated against two pathogenic fungi; Pythium aphanidermatum and Gaeumannomyces graminis in vitro. The Results of the impact of endophytic fungal isolates on P. aphanidermatum, indicated that highest percentage of inhibition was related to A. alternata and Alternaria sp. with 59.48 and 57.24 % and the least effectiveness was related to Epicoccum nigrum and Fusarium redolens with 8.92 percent. The Results of the impact of endophytic fungal isolates on G. graminis, indicated that highest percentage of inhibition was related to F. tricinctum and Alternaria sp. with 71.66 and 72.22 percent inhibition and the isolate Pleosporales sp. indicated no significant difference with control.
