General notions on argentine common hake (Merluccius hubbsi) necessary for a preliminary approach to the knowledge of the fishery are presented. The characteristics and habits of the species to survive in different marine ecosystems and overcome the exploitation level it is exposed to are explained. The content introduces the reader to the natural history of the species and its habitat, continues with a review of concepts of its fishery biology and ends with the resource exploitation stage. To facilitate deepening of terms a glossary and reference bibliography are included.

Se explican las características y hábitos de la especie para sobrevivir en distintos ecosistemas marinos y sobreponerse al nivel de explotación a que se ve sometida. El contenido introduce al lector en la historia natural de la especie y su hábitat, continúa con una revisión de conceptos de su biología pesquera y finaliza con la etapa de extracción del recurso. Para facilitar la profundización de términos se presentan un glosario y bibliografía de referencia.
