Composición y abundancia del plancton en la zona costera del Ecuador, en mayo de 2013 | Composition and abundance of the plankton in the coastal area of Ecuador in may 2013

Durante el año 2013 en la zona costera representada por cuatro estaciones, se presentó un total de 45 especies de fitoplancton, observándose la mayor productividad fitoplanctónica y zooplanctónica a los 2.5° sur estación 4 (E-4), frente a Puerto Bolívar, está abundancia zooplanctónica fue disminuyendo paulatinamente a partir de 0° hacia el norte de la costa ecuatoriana. Al comparar el grado de afinidad a través del índice de Sorensen, entre la estación 2 ubicada frente a Manta y la estación 3 ubicada frente a La Libertad; se determinó que existe una afinidad en la composición de las especies del zooplancton, representado por un 0.66 tanto a nivel superficial y subsuperficial. Las especies Sagitta peruviana, Sagitta popovicci y Khronitta subtilis que son especies típicas de aguas frías, su mayor abundancia fue observada a nivel subsuperficial, su composición similar de especies permitió una mayor afinidad entre las estaciones 3 y 4 localizada a 2º y 3º sur. En tanto, que hacia el norte del 0º de la línea ecuatorial es menor la afinidad y se observaron las especies Sagitta bruuni, Sagitta minima, que son típicas de aguas cálidas provenientes del norte. Se registraron las especies Chaetoceros affinis, Chaetoceros peruvianus, Thalassiosira subtilis que caracterizan la presencia de aguas neríticas, mientras que Rhizosolenia imbricata, Chaetoceros eibenii y Proboscia alata son indicadoras de aguas cálidas, por lo tanto se observó una mezcla de especies de aguas neríticas, cálidas y frías propias de la época en transición, estos cambios de productividad del plancton posiblemente estén asociados a las condiciones locales

This study was done at four stations in the coastal zone of Ecuador during 2013 and it observed a total 45 phytoplankton species. Towards the north of the 0º of the equatorial line the affinity is smaller and the species S. bruuni, S. minima that are typical of warm waters coming from the north. Were recorded the species Chaetoceros affinis, Ch. peruvianus, Thalassiosira subtilis that characterized the presence of neritic waters, whereas Rhizosolenia imbricata, Chaetoceros eibenii and Proboscia alata are indicative of warm waters, therefore a mixture of species of neritic, warm and cold conditions typical of the transition period, these plankton productivity changes may be associated with the conditions located in the Esmeraldas, Manta, La Libertad and Puerto Bolívar stations
