IOC for UNESCO
The need to have an organization devoted to gathering the oceanographic and environmental data and information distributed among several institutions and researchers, led to the establishment in 1969 of a DNA. As a result of this earlier effort, the Centro Argentino de Datos Oceanograficos (CEADO) was created under an agreement between the Argentine Navy Hydrographic Service (SHN) and the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), and designated in 1974 as NODC. In 1987, IOC credited CEADO with the responsibility of becoming RNDOC-SOC. Three years later it was commissioned by IOC and WMO as Specialized Oceanographic Center of the South Atlantic Ocean within the IGOSS program. In 1993, was designated as National Depositary Center of IOC publications. As of 1999, SHN has full responsibility for running CEADO.
