Studying possibility of potato biofortification by iodine in conditions of the North-West of the Russian Federation | Изучение возможности биофортификации картофеля йодом в условиях Северо-Запада РФ

The results of 3-year (2019-2021) experiments to study effects of foliar treatment with potassium iodide (PI) on the performance and quality of potato with various maturation periods in the republic of Karelia are presented. As found the potato varieties respond differently to iodine treatment. For three years, on average the early varieties 'Udacha' and 'Red Scarlett' were the most responsive, providing the maximum yield increase (17 and 8%, respectively) with double treatment with potassium iodide. The greatest effect of potassium iodide was obtained in the dry 2020 year (HTI 1.1). As established the amount of precipitation during and after the treatment period is a key factor affecting the yield and quality of the studied varieties. Heavy precipitation contributed to increasing the iodine migration and reduced the effect of foliar PI treatments. As a result, the studied rates of PI were insufficient for a more pronounced effect. Nevertheless, potassium iodide treatment contributed to a significant increase in the content of vitamin C in tubers from 5 to 20%, as well as a decrease in the content of nitrates in all the potato varieties. An increase in the starch content by 3-12% from the use of iodine was noted only in early varieties 'Udacha' and 'Red Scarlett'. No positive effect due to potassium iodine use has been established on the mid-season 'Aurora' variety.

Представлены результаты трехлетних (2019-2021) экспериментальных исследований по изучению влияния некорневой обработки йодидом калия (KI) на продуктивность и качество картофеля различных сроков созревания в Республике Карелия. Установлено, что сорта картофеля по-разному реагируют на обработку йодом. В среднем за три года скороспелые сорта Удача и Ред Скарлетт оказались наиболее отзывчивыми, обеспечивая максимальную прибавку урожая (17 и 8% соответственно) при двукратной обработке йодидом калия. Наибольший эффект от йодида калия был получен в засушливый 2020 г. (ГТК 1,1). Установлено, что количество осадков вовремя и после периода обработок служит ключевым фактором, влияющим на урожайность и качество исследуемых сортов. При этом обильные осадки способствовали усилению миграции йода и снижали эффект от некорневых обработок KI. В результате исследуемые дозы KI оказались недостаточными для более выраженного эффекта. Тем не менее, обработка йодидом калия способствовала значительному увеличению в клубнях содержания витамина С от 5 до 20%, а также снижению содержания нитратов у всех сортов картофеля. Увеличение содержания крахмала на 3-12% от использования йода было отмечено только у скороспелых сортов Удача и Ред Скарлетт. На среднеспелом сорте Аврора положительного влияния от применения йода калия не установлено.
