Uso del forraje de maíz (Zea mays) hidropónico en la alimentación de toretes mestizos | Use of hydroponics forage corn in the feeding of 5/8 Holstein x Brahman bovine

Con la finalidad de evaluar el valor nutritivo y cambio de peso en bovinos con el uso de forraje de maíz hidropónico (FMH), se llevó a cabo un experimento en el campo experimental ubicado en Maracay, estado Aragua, Venezuela a 463 msnm. (10º17’N y 67º37’O). La precipitación promedio de la zona es de 1.013 mm con temperatura media de 25ºC. Los suelos son de textura franca con contenidos medios de fósforo (12 a 14 ppm) y pH 8,5. Se utilizaron diez toretes mestizos de la raza Holstein x Brahman, separados en corrales diferentes (cinco animales/corral), bajo el sistema de estabulación. Se evaluaron dos tratamientos: T1 (testigo): animales alimentados con pasto picado y T2: animales alimentados con 70% de pasto picado y 30% de FMH. Los animales fueron previamente alimentados con las dietas experimentales por un período de siete días y luego por un lapso de siete semanas consecutivas se tomaron los pesos de los animales. Las variables estudiadas fueron: valor nutritivo del pasto y el FMH, contenido de nitrógeno en sangre y semen y cambio de peso. El diseño utilizado fue un completamente al azar, donde cada animal constituyó una repetición. Los resultados de laboratorio mostraron que el valor nutritivo del FMH fue superior al pasto utilizado, donde sobresale el alto contenido proteico que presenta en las hojas y planta entera (33,5 y 19,4%, respectivamente) (P<0,01). Asimismo, se observaron mayores tenores minerales en el FMH. El contenido de nitrógeno en sangre y semen de los toretes fue el mismo para ambos casos (1,3 y 0,7%, respectivamente). La ganancia de peso fue superior en los animales que consumieron pasto más FMH (1.123 g/animal/día). Se concluye que el FMH podría ser una alternativa de utilización para la alimentación de toretes en estabulación como suplemento de la dieta base.

To evaluate the nutritive value of hydroponics forage corn (HFC) and the effects on bovine weight change, it was carried out an experiment in experimental farm located in Maracay, Aragua state, Venezuela at 463 masl, 10º17’N and 67º37’W. The total annual rainfall was 1,013 mm with a mean temperature of 26ºC. The soils were loam texture with 12 ppm of phosphorous and pH 8.5. Ten growing bovines crossbreed 5/8 Holstein x Brahman were used, separated in different corrals (five animals/corral), under a stalled system. Two treatments were evaluated: Control, animals fed with grass only, and animals fed with 70% grass plus 30% of hydroponics forage corn. The animals were previously fed with the experimental diets for a period of 7 days and then for seven continuous weeks. The variables were: nutritive value of the grass and the HFC, nitrogen content in blood and semen, and weight change. The design was a complete randomize, where each animal was a repetition. The results showed that the nutritive value of the HFC was higher than the grass with a high protein content in the leaves and the whole plant (33.5 and 19.4%, respectively) (P<0.01). Also, higher mineral content was observed in the HFC. Significant differences were observed (P<0.05) between treatments for the consumption and use of the HFC. The nitrogen content in blood and semen of the animals showed no significant differences (1.3 and 0.7%, respectively) from the control. The weight gain was higher in the animals that consumed grass plus HFC (1.123 g/animal/d). It is concluded that the HFC could be a feeding alternative for the growing bovines in stalled conditions as a supplement in the base diet.
