El estado actual del ecosistema de arrecife coralino mesofótico (ACM), ubicado en la montaña submarina Bajo Frijol en el PNNCPR, fue determinado a partir de la evaluación de la calidad del agua marina por medio del FORAM Index, indicador basado en el análisis de la comunidad de foraminíferos bentónicos y medido por un rango entre 0 y 10, indicando 10 un ambiente en excelentes condiciones que permitan el crecimiento y desarrollo de los corales; y el análisis de la composición de la comunidad de foraminíferos bentónicos en tres sitios de muestreo (A, B y C), cada uno a diferente profundidad (37 m, 43 m y 50-70 m respectivamente), esto con la finalidad de encontrar o no diferencias de dicha comunidad respecto a la profundidad. En primer lugar, se realizó una identificación de los foraminíferos bentónicos encontrados y se clasificó según el grupo funcional, para su posterior aplicación en el cálculo del FI, el cual dio como resultado valores mayores a 4, representando condiciones óptimas para el crecimiento y desarrollo coralino, debido a bajas concentraciones de nutrientes, por lo que es probable que este ecosistema no está siendo influenciado por actividades antrópicas continentales como el turismo, pesca y aumento poblacional. En cuanto al análisis de la composición de la comunidad foraminífera, para definir diferencias entre las profundidades, se aplicaron los índices de diversidad, el análisis de clasificación de Bray-Curtis analizado a partir de ordenación MDS, SIMPER y ANOSIM, los cuales dieron como resultado homogeneidad entre los sitios de muestreo, demostrando que no hay mayor variación de las condiciones ambientales, dando como resultado aportes similares de la riqueza y abundancia de los géneros.

The current state of the mesophotic coral reef ecosystem (MCA), located in the Bajo Frijol seamount in the PNNCPR, was determined from the evaluation of marine water quality by means of the FORAM Index, an indicator based on the analysis of the benthic foraminifera community and measured by a range between 0 and 10, indicating an environment in excellent conditions that allow the growth and development of corals; and the analysis of the composition of the benthic foraminifera community in three sampling sites (A, B and C), each at different depths (37 m, 43 m and 50-70 m respectively), with the purpose of finding or not differences in the benthic foraminifera community with respect to depth. First, the benthic foraminifera found were identified and classified according to the functional group, for subsequent application in the calculation of the IF, which resulted in values greater than 4, representing optimal conditions for coral growth and development, due to low concentrations of nutrients, so it is likely that this ecosystem is not being influenced by inland anthropogenic activities such as tourism, fishing and population increase. Regarding the analysis of the composition of the foraminiferal community, to define differences between depths, diversity indices were applied, the Bray-Curtis classification analysis analyzed from MDS, SIMPER and ANOSIM ordination, which resulted in homogeneity between sampling sites, demonstrating that there is no major variation in environmental conditions, resulting in similar contributions of the richness and abundance of the genera.
