Show more [+] Less [-]We reviewed available data regarding temporal trends of abundance and biomass of European sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) in GSA 06 and GSA 07 for different age groups (eggs, larvae, juveniles and adults) using complementary datasets. When available, we included information about spatialtemporal patterns. Regarding changes in European sardine abundance and biomass, we find a general decreasing temporal trend of biomass of sardine in both GSA06 and GSA07. This decline coincides with a significant decline in landings in both areas, likely motivated by the depletion of the stock. The age and length distributions of sardine populations with time show a shift towards younger and smaller individuals in both areas, which are reflected in the composition of the landings. [...]
