Evaluación del funcionamiento de un prototipo de secador solar y su influencia en el tiempo de secado en probetas de Pinus patula, en el centro de la madera de la Universidad Nacional de Loja

The green wood can suffer unfavourable changes that considerably affect its quality and consequently limit its applications. These changes include the formation of cracks and crevices. The present research work was developed in the Wood Center of the National University of Loja, located in the Fifth Teaching Experiment "La Argelia", with the purpose of evaluating the variables involved in wood drying in a prototype solar dryer and its influence on the drying time in specimens of Pinus patula. For this research, specimens of 3 individuals were obtained. The total number of samples evaluated was 99 for the three treatments (dryer, under roof and environment). The drying time of the wood was 63 days from June to August 2019, achieving greater weight loss in the treatment of the solar dryer, followed by indoor treatment and finally to the environment. The temperature of the dryer was very variable in relation to that of the outside, and the relative humidity was more heterogeneous inside the dryer. Therefore, solar dryers are very efficient in removing water from the wood in the shortest possible time, unlike open-air drying. La madera verde puede sufrir cambios desfavorables que afectan considerablemente su calidad y consecuentemente limitaría sus aplicaciones. Entre estos cambios se incluyen la formación de grietas y rajaduras. El presente trabajo de investigación se desarrolló en el Centro de la Madera de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, ubicado en la Quinta Experimental Docente “La Argelia”, con el propósito de evaluar las variables que intervienen en el secado de madera en un prototipo de secador solar y su influencia en el tiempo de secado en probetas de Pinus patula. Para esta investigación se obtuvieron probetas de 3 individuos. El total de las muestras evaluadas fueron 99 para los tres tratamientos (secador, bajo techo y ambiente). El tiempo que duró el secado de la madera fue de 63 días desde el mes de junio a agosto de 2019; logrando mayor pérdida de peso en el tratamiento del secador solar, seguido del tratamiento bajo techo y finalmente al ambiente. La temperatura del secador resultó muy variable en relación a la del exterior, y la humedad relativa fue más heterogénea en el interior del secador. Por lo tanto los secadores solares son muy eficientes para eliminar el agua de la madera en un menor tiempo posible, a diferencia del secado al aire libre.
