Relação solo e paisagem em ambiente de alta montanha; Cordilheira Blanca, Andes peruanos | Relationship between soil and landscape in a high mountain environment; Cordillera Blanca, Peruvian Andes

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi estudar a relação solo e paisagem em ambiente de alta montanha tropical, na Cordilheira Blanca, Andes peruanos. O trabalho foi dividido em três capítulos. No primeiro foram avaliados processos pedogenéticos e a intensidade do intemperismo nos solos ao longo do gradiente climático entre os vales de Llanganuco (leste- seco) e Portachuelo (oeste-úmido) a partir de propriedades físicas, químicas e mineralógicas. Os pedons de ambos os vales foram formados por depósitos coluviais e são esqueléticos. São fracamente desenvolvidos, apresentando os horizontes O, A, C e C/R. Compartilham também os mesmos processos de formação de solos, associados com a acumulação de matéria orgânica como humificação, melanização e formação de complexos organometálicos e os horizontes superficiais tem alta concentração de COT. De modo geral, os pedons são ácidos a ligeiramente ácidos, baixa saturação por bases, alta saturação por Al e CTC efetiva e potencial baixa. 70% dos pedons foram classificados como Umbrisols. No entanto, a intensidade do intemperismo é maior nos pedons em Portachuelo, onde alguns mostraram formação de óxidos de ferro cristalino e transformação de minerais primários (clorita) para secundários (EHE-Esmectita), demonstrando que o microclima, o material de origem e o clima regional controlaram a intensidade do intemperismo. No segundo capítulo foram avaliados o comportamento térmico e hídrico dos solos abaixo da linha de neve nas fitofisionomias Roquedal (4.835 m), Pajonal (4.705 m) e Bosque de Polylepis (4.448 m). Para isto, foram instalados sistemas de sensores e os dados foram registrados a cada hora, entre junho de 2011 a junho de 2012. Foram observados os regimes diários da temperatura do solo de dias de congelamento e descongelamento (DCD) e dias de descongelamento (DD). A sazonalidade da precipitação e o microclima controlam a frequência destes regimes. A maior frequência de DCD está relacionada com o período seco. Em contrapartida, ocorre aumento de DD no período úmido. No solo do Roquedal predominam DCD em todos os meses e no Pajonal e Bosque de Polylepis nos meses do período seco. A frequência de DD é maior no Bosque de Polylepis. Foram detectadas tendências nas amplitudes diárias da temperatura do solo influenciados pela insolação, nebulosidade e conteúdo de água. Nos períodos com amplitude térmica elevada, a umidade no solo é baixa. Em contrapartida, a amplitude térmica diminui com aumento da umidade. No entanto, para análises mais conclusivas do comportamento da temperatura e umidade do solo é necessária uma série temporal de dados mais longa. No capítulo 3 o objetivo foi identificar espécies de plantas produtoras de fitólitos sobre solos com diferentes regimes de umidade e estabelecer e examinar assembleias modernas de fitólitos para que possam ser usadas como referência em estudos paleoambientais. Foram coletadas espécies vasculares nos mesmos sítios de monitoramento de temperatura e umidade do solo. Foram identificadas 13 espécies produtoras de fitólitos, 9 são Poaceae. As Poaceae que ocorrem nas três fitofisionomias, pertecem a sub-família Festicoid (Pooideae - com sistema fotossintético C3) e produzem fitólitos circulares, retangulares, oblongs, rondels. O gênero Agrostis possui fitólitos festucóides diferenciados, sendo maiores e menos espessos. Esta pesquisa conclui que o uso dos fitólitos para distinguir as três fitofisionomias é limitado, uma vez que as assembleias de fitólitos não se diferenciam mesmo ocorrendo em solos com diferentes regimes de umidade.

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between the soil and landscape in the tropical high mountain environment of the Cordillera Blanca, Peruvian Andes. The thesis comprises three parts. In the first part, the pedogenic processes and weathering intensity of soils is evaluated based on physical, chemical and mineralogical properties, across a climatic gradient from the drier Llanganuco Valley in the east to the wetter Portachuelo Valley in the west. The pedons were formed by colluvial deposits and are skeletic in both valleys. They are weakly developed, with O, A, C and C/R horizons. They also show the same soil forming processes, mainly those linked with organic matter such as humification, melanization and organometallic complexes and the surficial horizons have high TOC concentration. Generally, the pedons are acidic to slightly acidic, with low basis saturation, high Al saturation and low effective and potential CEC. Seventy percent of the pedons were classified as Umbrisols. However, the weathering intensity was higher in the Portachuello Valley, as indicated by the presence of crystalline iron oxides and the transformation of primary minerals (chlorite) to secondary (HIS-Smectite). The results demonstrate that the weathering intensity is controlled by microclimate, parent material and regional climate. In the second part, the thermal and hydric behavior of the soils below the snow line is evaluated in different kind of vegetation, Roquedal (4 835 m.a.s.l.), Pajonal (4 705 m.a.s.l.) and Polylepis forest (4 448 m.a.s.l.). In order to do this, sensors were installed and data recorded every hour between June 2011 and June 2012. The daily regimes of soil temperature of freeze-thaw days (FTD) and thaw-days (TD) were observed. Precipitation seasonality and microclimate controls the frequency of these regimens. The higher frequency of FTD is related with the dry season. On the other hand, TD rises in the wet season. The FTD regimen is dominant in all months in Roquedal soils and in the dry season in Pajonal and Polylepis forest soils. The frequency of TD is higher in the Polylepis forest soils. Patterns detected in the daily amplitude are influenced by insolation, cloudy cover and water content. In the periods with high thermal amplitude it was verified that soil moisture is lower. Conversely, the thermal amplitude was found to decrease with increasing soil moisture. However, long-term data is necessary for a fuller understanding of temperature and moisture behavior in soils of this region. The third part deals with the identification of plants based on phytoliths in soils with different moisture regimes, and the creation and examination of a modern phytolith assemblage to be used as reference collection in paleoenvironmental studies. Vascular species were sampled in the same sites where the soil temperature/moisture sensors were installed. Thirteen plant types were identified, among them nine of the Poaceae family. The Poaceae, which occurs in the three kinds of vegetation, belongs to the sub-family Festicoid (Pooidae – with C3 photosynthetic system) and produces circular, rectangular, oblong and rondels phytolith types. The Agrostis genus have distinguishable Festucoides phytoliths, being larger and thinner. Taking account the results, we concluded that the use of phytolith to differentiate the three type of vegetation is limited, since the phytolith assemblage did not show differences even occurring in soils with different moisture regimes. Therefore, care should be taken when using phytolith assemblages to reconstruct paleoenvironmental conditions in this area.
