Resposta agronômica de híbridos comerciais de milho à diferentes populações de plantas | Agronomic response of maize hybrids with different cycles to plant population in Brazil

Na cultura do milho (Zea mays L.), a alteração da população de plantas está entre os tratos culturais que mais podem influenciar na produtividade de grãos. Existe na literatura, que para cada tipo de híbrido e região tem-se uma população de plantas ótima, em que a produtividade de grãos é maximizada. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta de híbridos de milho contemporâneos sob diferentes populações de plantas. O Experimento 1 foi realizado na safra de 2017/2018, na UEPE – Aeroporto (Estação Experimental do Aeroporto em Viçosa-MG). Os Experimentos 2 e 3, foram realizados na UEPE - Coimbra (Estação Experimental de Coimbra em Coimbra-MG) nas safras 2017/2018 e 2018/2019, respectivamente. Nos 3 Experimentos, o delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados com três repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As parcelas foram constituídas por 10 híbridos de milho (2B210PW, BG7061YHR, BM915PRO2, DKB230PRO3, P1680VYH, P4285YHR, DKB390PRO3, BG7049YH BM709PRO2, MG711PW). As subparcelas foram constituídas de 6 populações de plantas (50.000, 60.000, 70.000, 80.000, 90.000 ou 100.000 plantas ha -1 ). Foram avaliados a produtividade de grãos e seus componentes, componentes de arquitetura de plantas e número de dias para florescimento masculino e feminino. As análises foram feitas com o uso do software R, pelo pacote ExpDes.pt. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância. Para as parcelas foi feito um teste de Scott-Knott (P < 0,05). Para as subparcelas foi realizada uma analise de regressão, cujos coeficientes foram testados pelo teste T de Student (P < 0,05). O coeficiente de variação experimental variou de 1,12 % (número de dias para florescimento masculino, Experimento 3) a 24,76 % (produtividade de grãos, Experimento 3), o que caracterizou boa precisão para maioria dos caracteres, nos 3 Experimentos realizados. Para produtividade de grãos, nos 3 Experimentos, houve diferentes interações entre híbridos e populações de plantas, o que indicou que as populações devem ser recomendadas para cada genótipo, local e condição climática. Além disso, foi observada a tendência de maiores médias de produtividade de grãos nos híbridos menos precoces. Já para os componentes de produção, diâmetro de colmo, largura e comprimento de folha e área foliar, os híbridos avaliados nos 3 Experimentos apresentaram resultados semelhantes, em que as respectivas médias diminuíram com o incremento da população de plantas. A média do número de dias para florescimento feminino e masculino, em geral aumentou com o uso de maiores populações de plantas, o que contribuiu para a falta de sincronização entre a antese e o espigamento. As médias dos números de nós abaixo, número de nós acima da espiga, altura de planta e altura de espiga em geral não diferiram com o uso de diferentes populações de plantas. Entretanto com os resultados obtidos, conclui-se, que as características como precocidade, arquitetura moderna de dossel, estatura e disposição das folhas ao longo da planta, relativas aos híbridos estudados, não foram suficientes para gerar incrementos consistentes de produtividade de grãos frente a maiores de populações de plantas nos diferentes locais dos Experimentos e condições climáticas. The change of plant population in corn (Zea mays L.), is among the cultural treatments that can most influence grain productivity. There is in the literature, that for each type of hybrid and region there is an optimum plant population, which the grain yield is maximized. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the response of modern corn hybrids under different plant populations. Experiment 1 was carried out in the 2017/2018 harvest, at UEPE - Airport (Experimental Airport Station in Viçosa-MG). Experiments 2 and 3 were carried out at UEPE - Coimbra (Coimbra Experimental Station in Coimbra-MG) in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons, respectively. In the 3 Experiments, the experimental design used was randomized blocks with three replications, in a split-plot scheme. The plots consisted of 10 corn hybrids (2B210PW, BG7061YHR, BM915PRO2, DKB230PRO3, P1680VYH, P4285YHR, DKB390PRO3, BG7049YH BM709PRO2, MG711PW). The subplots consisted of 6 plant populations (50,000, 60,000, 70,000, 80,000, 90,000 or 100,000 plants ha-1). Grain yield, yield components, plant architecture components and number of days for male and female flowering, were evaluated. The analyzes were performed using the R software, using the ExpDes.pt package. The data were submitted to analysis of variance. For the plots, a Scott-Knott test was performed (P < 0.05). For the subplots, a regression analysis was performed, whose coefficients were tested by Student's T test (P < 0.05). The coefficient of experimental variation ranged from 1.12 % (number of days for male flowering, Experiment 3) to 24.76 % (grain yield, Experiment 3), which characterized good precision for most of the characters, in the 3 performed Experiments. For grain yield, in the 3 Experiments, there were different interactions between hybrids and plant populations, which indicated that populations should be recommended for each genotype, location and climatic condition. In addition, a trend towards higher grain yield averages was observed in less early hybrids. As for the production components, stalk diameter, leaf width and length and leaf area, the hybrids evaluated in the 3 Experiments showed similar results, in which the respective averages decreased with the increase in the plant population. The average number of days for female and male flowering, in general, increased with the use of larger plant populations, which contributed to the lack of synchronization between anthesis and corn earing. The average number of nodes below the ear, number of nodes above the ear, plant height and ear height in general did not differ with the use of different plant populations. However, with the results obtained, it is concluded that the characteristics such as precocity, modern canopy architecture, stature and leaf layout throughout the plant, relative to the studied hybrids, were not sufficient to generate consistent increases in grain productivity in the face of larger plant populations, in different Experiment locations and climatic conditions.
