This paper shows the results obtained in a study dealing with the existence of two ecotypes in the Spanish Water Dog. We have measured seven morphological quantitative variables: one length, one diameter one perimeter and four angles in 98 animals belonging to both types and sexes. We have detected significative differences between the northern and southern populations of the Spanish Water Dog on the four angles, and the longitudinal diameter. We have concluded a significative differentiation between both populations, probably induced by a functional selection together with the effect of derivation. Also we must point out a clear sexual dimorphism in both types.
Show more [+] Less [-]Este trabajo pretende dilucidar la existencia de dos ecotipos en el Perro de Agua Español, mediante el estudio de siete variables morfológicas cuantitativas: una longitud, un diámetro, un perímetro y cuatro ángulos, en 98 animales de ambos tipos y sexos. En los ángulos y en el diámetro longitudinal se han detectado diferencias significativas entre las poblaciones del norte y sur del Perro de Agua Español. La diferenciación significativa entre ambas poblaciones, ha sido probablemente inducida por la selección natural unida al efecto de deriva. También debemos destacar un claro dimorfismo sexual en ambos tipos.
