El propósito de este artículo es abordar la gestión del agua y sus implicaciones para la economía agraria a fines de la Edad Media, tomando como referencia la comarca natural de Tierra de Campos, y más concretamente el lugar de Becerril. El estudio muestra la trascendencia de la dimensión política en la jerarquización de los usos del agua, así como la importancia adquirida por estructuras complejas de carácter supralocal para una correcta gestión de los recursos, en el marco de una elevada competencia por el agua.
Show more [+] Less [-]The aim of this paper is to analyze the uses of water and its implications for the rural economy in the Late Middle Ages, taking as a reference the natural region of Tierra de Campos, and in a more specific way, Becerril. The study shows quite clearly the significant role played by the local politics in the regulation of water uses. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance achieved in the management of resources by territorial structures, involving many local communities in a background of strong competition for the water.
